So to start things off, I'm going to let you know that What Made Milwaukee Famous isn’t from Milwaukee by saying: since you're probably already heard it somewhere else, I'm going to go ahead and skip explaining that What Made Milwaukee Famous is actually from Texas, not Milwaukee.

Phew, now that all that confusion is out of the way, let's get down to business. From the first track, "idecide", What Made Milwaukee Famous set the bar high. Although considerably more spacey (in a synthy sort of way) than the remaining eleven songs, it reveals many of the group's strengths: steady and firm drumming, energetic and bouncy basslines (you have to see them live to really appreciate this), and keyboards that provide an extra layer of atmospherics as well as counterpoint.

"Hellodrama", "Sweet Lady", and "Bldg. a Boat from the Boards in Your Eye" show off the groups pop sensibilities with choruses that'll have you singing along without realizing it and maybe moving your hips a little as well. In addition to all the poppy wonder tracks, What Made Milwaukee Famous also make room for the mellow ("hopelist") as well as more dramatic orchestration ("the Jeopardy of Contentment"). I think the best way to describe Trying to Never Catch Up is universally appealing.
