After reviewing Hello Sir Records' Split EP I knew that We Versus the Shark could rock. Now, after at least ten listens to their album Ruin Everything!, I know they can do a lot more. It actually only takes one listen to realize this, but when something is this good, it is really easy to lose track of how many times it has been going on repeat.
The intros to several of the tracks on the album including the opener "You Don't Have to Kick It" work to quickly establish a dance beat not clearly present on the split EP. Providing a soundtrack to your frantic dance habit isn't all We Versus the Shark accomplish though. The band frequently cuts back and forth between experimental noise jams, intricate guitar lines, and mellower melodic segments managing to meld them into cohesive units and avoiding any awkward juxtapositions. The end result is ten tracks of high-energy compositions that will easily have you clapping and stomping your feet, an act that is guaranteed to make We Versus the Shark very happy.
