Curious Faces/Violet Future

Twin Tigers rip a few pages from the Jesus and Mary Chain and Sonic Youth masterplans, which is no real bad thing, exactly, and they have a weird ability to make two-and-a-half to three-and-a-half minute songs seem a lot longer. I don't mean that in the bad sense of ohholyshitwhenisthisgoingtoend, but rather, in a good sense of, they pack a lot of stuff into short spaces without making those short spaces seem overcrowded. So let's hear it for a band that doesn't get caught up in its own shoegazing noisemaking, and fashions its view of its laces into short, structured meandering. Let's do it as a track and field metaphor: this is the 800 meters of pseudopsychedlic noiserock. And I like that event.
