The Slats aren't a band of complex orchestral layers or dreamy atmospherics. In fact I think you might say that they are the exact opposite. The trio is one of those groups that are able to put together a good amount of magic with simple arrangements and a bit of bravado.
The songs move along in their dirty, fuzzy manner at a determined pace in short bursts of rocking catchiness. With the exception of Ignatius, which features a fuzzed out somewhat funky bass paired with equally fuzzy rapping, The Slats don't deviate much from their methodology and with tracks like "Bash the Plastic", "Stegosaurus WrxxX", "Erase U", and, well, every other song on the album there isn't much reason to do so. The tracks grab your attention; get you nodding your head, maybe even pumping a fist every once and while; and leave you wanting more. If possible, see the songs performed by the band live; it'll give you more than you might expect, but be careful because you’ll be hooked for life.
