First, I'd like to say that I have no opinion when it comes to the group Monster Magnet. It is possible that not having an opinion is in fact displaying an opinion, but mainly I just want to make it clear that any opinions I have of Monster Magnet are not affecting my opinions of The Ribeye Brothers, the band created by former Monster Magnet singer Tim Cronin and former Monster Magnet drummer Jon Kleiman.
On Bar Ballads and Cautionary Tales, The Ribeye Brothers do their best to blend a good dose of 60s garage psychedelia with an equally heavy dose of sludge and a tiny bit of twang thrown in for good measure. The result is a mostly forgettable effort with an occasional standout track to make up for the two or three songs I may have skipped before getting to it.
