Recorded in just eight days with Death Cab for Cutie's Chris Walla, City Lights is the first full-lenth album from Bellingham, WA's Racetrack. Fronted by Meghan Kessinger who has been described as being "no bigger than a sprite" by The Stranger's Sean Nelson, the band maintains a big rocking experience throughout the album while maintaining some clear pop sensibilities.

City Lights maintains a grounded sound during the entire course of the album — not glossy, but not exactly lo-fi either. I guess the best way to describe it may be plain and simple. That may come off as a possibly bad thing, but I'm not talking about the songs, the band, or anything like that. It's a description of something not quite tangible, the general esthetic.

Listening to Racetrack isn't an experience that can be likened to venturing off into a far-off land, it is very real. The narrative lyrics describe real life dialogues and situations that should be familiar to many and in the event you find Kessinger's lyrics to be too autobiographical, you can still seriously rock out.
