After a quick listen to a few tracks of From Gutter With Love, it may be easy for some to simply declare San Francisco's Pidgeon as a sort of Blonde Redhead knock-off especially since it seems that any independent group with a Japanese female singer receives this sort of designation. So if Enon is the fun, non-pretentious Blonde Redhead, then Pidgeon is Blonde Redhead with a real edge. After reviewing the bands line-up, this designation should be no surprise with three-fifths of the band coming from Bay Area hardcore band Used Naked Body (drummer Troy Enrile; guitarist/singer/screamer Micah Foley; guitarist/yeller Jonathan Tuite).

The former Used Naked Body members with Val Iwamasa (singer/guitarist) and Mikey de Jesus (bass) have managed to create a near perfect blend of hardcore energy and more pop-tilted sensibilities. While this fusion leads to some excellent results on "Ain't Nothing Can't" and "Sty", it occasionally seems more like a forced juxtaposition with limited transitions between the melodic and the manic. For the most part, however, Pidgeon manages to keep the tracks on From Gutter With Love in a tight well-composed form.
