The Lovely Sparrows' first release on the compact disc (they self-released a 7" titled Take Your Hats Off, You Godless Bastards), the Austin groups new EP Pulling Up Floors, Pouring on (New) Paint shows that they have not lost their fondness for long, comma-separated titles.
Throughout the EP's five tracks, the music of The Lovely Sparrows proves to be on the quieter side of things, yet still manages to present a vibrant energy. The chorus of "Your Flowers Will Bloom" has a bit of a Shins feel except with a delightful female harmony backing it up at times and the use of hand claps and finger snaps in "The War Has Seen the Best of Me" makes both songs standouts, and "Let’s Watch the Tourists" closes out Pulling Up Floors, Pouring on (New) Paint on a high-energy note.
