Lost in the Trees is the moniker of Ari Picker, whose body of work includes fronting The b-sides and The Never. Picker has released the EP Time Taunts Me, which is a compilation of solo work he has been writing for the past 7 years. Time Taunts Me has a cinematic feel and one can easily imagine hearing the epic songwriting accompanying Oscar-winning movie scenes. The EP begins with the multi-faceted "Lost in the Snow", which is reminiscent of a classical piece with its differing movements, and transitions into the haunting title-track "Time Taunts Me". Picker’s personal lyrics and Damien Rice-esque voice mesh incredibly well with the eerie string arrangements. The instrumental tracks, "I've Always Loved the Fall" and "For Elizabeth John", are beautifully crafted with the help of Picker's 9-piece backing orchestra assembled from his days at the Berklee College of Music. The string arrangements make this album special and justify the EP's title. The songs leave a lasting impression on the listener and take them on a sentimental journey through the forest of Ari Picker’s mind. Overall, Lost in Trees has constructed a magnificent EP that is sure to be the surprise of 2007.
