On Isobella's MySpace.com page, the band members section is divided into beginning, middle, and end describing the group's evolution from quartet to duo. Originally comprised of Heath Dupras, Shane McLaughlin, Laura Poinsette, and Brad Richardson, Poinsette and Richardson now represent the sole remaining members. Despite the smaller numbers, Isobella manage to create a saturated dreamworld on Surrogate Emotions of the Silverscreen.
While Poinsette’s vocals and keyboards and Richardson's guitars and drum programming form the firm foundation of Isobella's sound, it is the use of effects and a heavy dose of reverb that allow the duo to fill out their sound. Depending on your affection for Isobella's dreamy pop, Surrogate Emotions of the Silverscreen's nine tracks may be described as lacking in variety and exploration or incredibly consistent. Each track features light percussion as the rhythmic base, a blend of Poinsette's vocals and keyboards to form a hazy shroud, and finally Richardson's guitar provides the embellishments that differentiate the tracks. If you're looking to take a journey into dreamland, this is definitely the album for you; the only question is whether you want to take the full fifty minute trip.
