Not surprisingly for a band featuring a former member of Saccharine Trust (as well as a drummer from a later incarnation of Rollins Band), the trio known as the Inevitable Backlash has a mid-'80s throwback sound, with hints of the SST and Homestead sound pouring through each song, but with much less bracing results than the band's origins.

Several of the five tracks here kick up a fair amount of dust, propelled by front man John Renton's shining guitar tones and solid work as both a rhythm and lead guitarist. At the same time, Renton undermines himself with a flat, toneless delivery to his vocals and confounding lyrics that have some imaginative turns of phrase ("My heroes without moving") but make little to no sense within the rock song context. Worse still is a trudging ballad, called "Snowstorms", that seems intended to showcase the band's depth but is complete filler.

It feels rather terrible to couch it like this, but I would be much more forgiving of this album if this was a young, rather inexperienced band of kids who are trying to find a sound early on in their nascent career. However, considering the pedigree the men of this group have, the disc feels incomplete and half-hearted.
