Although The Heavenly States' new "King Epiphany" single isn't slated to be released for another week, the band has been getting quite a bit of attention the past two months due to the release's strong anti-war stance. The single's B-side, "Monument", is a reading of 420 names of Iraqi civilians killed since the invasion of Iraq. The track, which was used in demonstrations during the Repulican National Convention, presents the names with three overlapping voices that lead to a somewhat disorienting and enveloping experience.

For those that prefer their protest to be less conceptual and more rocking, the A-side does not disappoint. "King Epiphany" opens with a gritty guitar riff, quickly capturing attention as the rhythm section and vocals kick in. Mixed in with the lines of anti-war lyrics are layers of pop sensibility capable of getting even the most ardent war supporter's foot tapping...that is until they start listening to the lyrics.
