Le Main Drag, the debut from Chicago's The Bon Mots is a nod to simpler musical times — times when guitars were clean, vocals included "do do do dos", and standard 4/4 measures allowed for easy head bobbing and foot tapping. Formed in 2000 by Mike Coy and Eric Chial, The Bon Mots have definitely been able to tighten up their sound over the years and it seems as though everything on Le Main Drag is in its proper place.

There is no doubt in my mind that The Bon Mots are capable of writing a near-perfect pop song, but at the same time this can make the songs on Le Main Drag seem slightly artificial and too planned. It isn't as apparent on "Glistening", the opening track that is also my favorite from the album, but as the album wears on the songs seem as though they are too formulaic. This release may provide a nice break if you need a break from the more experimental or hardcore, but in other cases I can only recommend it for those that prefer their music more plain and predictable.
