According to the timeline on his MySpace profile – and the liner notes – Barton Carroll recorded Love & War, his second album, more than five years ago in 2001. Then in 2004 Travis Morgan found the album and now in 2006 Morgan is releasing it on the Birmingham, Alabama-based Skybucket Records.

The album opens with Carroll singing the first verse of the Appalachian traditional "Look Up, Look Down, That Lonesome Road" and within those opening moments, it is clear that there is something undeniably honest about Carroll's voice. And while it is quite possible that I would be quite satisfied with an album consisting of just Carroll's lightly-weathered vocals, I must admit that I find the arrangements quite pleasing as well. Whether consisting of bassoon, piano, violin, or the more traditional guitar/bass/drums combination, Carroll’s vocals are still front and center where they belong.

The most recent entry on Barton Carroll's timeline indicates that his third album, The Lost One was recorded this past January; my only hope is that it doesn’t take another five years for it to be discovered and released.
