Alina Simone’s Debut Album Finds a Place with 54º40′ or Fight

What a difference ten days can make. Not so long ago, when posting about a new Alina Simone and Gabriel Miller-Phillips split EP, I expressed hope that I would have news about Alina Simone’s album, Placelessness. Well, guess what! I am now posting with some news about it.
I received an email from Alina this morning with the great news that her album has found a home with 54º40′ or Fight the people also behind the ridiculously excellent magazine Copper Press. So now the waiting begins as the official release date for Placelessness isn’t until July 3rd. Until then, I recommend checking out Alina Simone’s MySpace page and get a taste for the album by listening to “Saw Edged Grass”.
In addition to the release of Placelessness, Alina will be keeping busy in March with a performance at SXSW and one of her songs, “Gunshots”, will be released on a Yer Bird Records compilation titled Folk Music for the End of the World. Also, thanks to a Durham Art’s Council emerging artists grant she won, another album release featuring covers of Russian punk singer Yanka Dyagileva may see release in 2007 as well.
