Murder City Devils Get Back on the Road and the Web

Gabe sent an e-mail out today announcing a couple of quick web related updates from The Murder City Devils. First that a load of photos have been posted on their Flickr profile and then also that they’ve joined the world of Twitter. The band also has a new web site at www.themurdercitydevils.com and in bigger and actual non-virtual news is that the band has a set of of February tours dates scheduled. They still definitely rank in the top live performances I’ve seen so if you have a chance, check it out.

2009 = The Year of the Lizard?

Forget the fact that your Chinese calendar may inform you that 2009 is the year of the ox. The original lineup of The Jesus Lizard – David Yow, Duane Denison, David Wm. Sims, and Mac McNeilly – are reuniting for a brief string of performances in 2009 that will have fans of the group which disbanded back in 1999 declaring 2009 to be the year of the Lizard. The first performance will be at the All Tomorrow’s Parties “The Fans Strike Back” event in the UK in early May with a final performance occurring in Chicago some time in November.

Touch and Go Records is also doing what it can to support the year of the Lizard, reissuing four remastered releases by the group – Head, Goat, Liar, and Down with expanded packaging on LP and CD in May.

Pretty Girls Make Graves Bury the Band

Earlier today Pretty Girls Make Graves announced on their website that their tour in May will be the band’s last due to the departure of Nick DeWitt.

From the PGMG Website:

We are sorry to announce that our upcoming tour in May will be our last. Nick quit the band and the rest of us feel like it wouldnâ€™t be right to continue on without him. The 5 of us feel very lucky to have met and worked with some truly amazing people over the years. Thank you all so muchâ€¦.

I checked the PGMG tour page, PGMG MySpace page, and Matador Records, but couldn’t find a list of these dates, so keep your eyes open for the last chance to see Pretty Girls Make Graves live.

Final Some By Sea Show This Friday

Tacoma, Washington group Some By Sea will be perforing their final show this Friday at Hell’s Kitchen in Tacoma. I can’t really think of a better venue for any Tacoma group to close out their career. I’m sad that I never got around to seeing the band perform live here in Seattle, but I’m not sure if I’ll be making the trip down south to Tacoma. If you go, please give me the scoop on the performance!

Coulier Has Broken Up

I recently made it my goal to better keep up with all the MySpace event invites that I get everyday. Why? Well because of my lack of attention to the social networking site, I totally missed that Coulier played its last show on June 23rd! Their albums Cool, Cooler, Coulier and Vibin’ were seriously awesome examples of musical mastery. Flagpole has a great write up on the Coulier and their final show.

Murder City Devils Reunite

In case you haven’t heard (I’ve been passed out on NyQuil the last couple of nights so am behind in posting this), the Murder City Devils are reuniting to play this year’s Capitol Hill Block Party in Seattle. I first heard rumors regarding the band reuniting on The Plan Nine Rock Show and an immediate smile came across my face. Holding the top spot on my list of best live performances, I will definitely be there on July 29th to see them play.

Other bands scheduled to perform are: Pretty Girls Make Graves, Band of Horses, Common Market, Himsa, Black Angels, Slender Means, Minus The Bear, Silver Sun Pickups, Smoosh, and Schoolyard Heros.
