Following the release of the Time Change EP on Oedipus Records in April of this year, San Francisco’s 60 Watt Kid have signed with Absolutely Kosher Records to release their self-titled full-length this fall on October 30, 2007. The trio of musicians that make up 60 Watt Kid—Kevin Litrow (voice, guitar, fuckery), Derek Thomas (guitars, keys, samples and electronics) and Garrett Pierce (tom drum, percussion and xylophone)—blend lower-fi, bare bones rock and roll with a bit of electronic experimentation and present it in a unique package of controlled chaos. And apparently the group’s live performance delivers in the same manner as they were signed to Absolutely Kosher based on a single live performance.
A few tracks from the new album are available for listening on the 60 Watt Kid MySpace page and we’ve also got an MP3 link for you below in the track listing.

San Francisco-based LoveLikeFire have a new EP coming out August 28, 2007. Titled An Ocean in the Air, the release follows a little over a year from the group’s last release, Bed of Gold, which was release in July of 2006.
The band has four tracks from An Ocean in the Air available as MP3s on their site and a listen to those tracks should make it pretty clear that Ann Yu and company have moved away from LoveLikeFire’s more atmospheric beginnings and into more directly rocking territory. The beats are strong, the guitar is crisp and edgy, and Yu’s vocals are clearly in charge. The tracks just sound great.
LoveLikeFire currently has a few west coast dates scheduled for September, and then will be moving out into the rest of the country for a national tour in October. Dates are still being confirmed, but what is currently scheduled is viewable below.

So if you’re wondering who this band is or why I’m posting it, there’s a simple answer: it’s awesome! Plus, it features The PhiLL(er) writer, Doug Cowie in it - he’s the guy with the ridiculous chops. I came very close to going out and getting Indian buffet this morning because of this video.
