With how popular Marty’s review of Neil Young: Heart of Gold has been on the site, this seems to be something that may interest readers.
American Laundromat Records has announced that it is planning to release a tribute to Neil Young titled Cinnamon Girl near the end of 2006. The album will focus on Young’s early work from 1969-1979 and is to be recorded by women artists and female-fronted bands. Submissions are currently being excepted for artists that wish to be on the album and guidelines are on the Cinnamon Girl website.
In memory of the label founder’s mother, Norine R. Spadaro, a portion of all sales will go to Casting For Recovery. The organization provides support and education for women who have or have had breast cancer by gathering in natural settings and learning fly-fishing.
The tracks chosen for the project are:
After the Gold Rush
Burned
Cinnamon Girl
Comes A Time
Cowgirl In The Sand
Down By The River
Everybody Knows This Is Nowhere
Heart of Gold
Helpless
Hey Hey
I Am A Child
Like A Hurricane
Ohio
Powderfinger
Southern Man
Sugar Mountain
The Needle And The Damage Done

Quasi has five performances — all in California — left this month and on the 25th they’ll be playing at the Detroit Bar in Costa Mesa with Greater California opening on that date.
You may remember from a while back that we did a review of Somber Wurlitzer and also an interview released on the podcast. If the band’s sunny, nostalgic sound appealed to you, they’ve posted a couple of new tracks “All the Colors” and “Disappearing” on the Greater California MySpace page that are definitely worth checking out.
As for Quasi, here are their remaining dates:
04/24: San Diego, CA @ Casbah
04/25: Costa Mesa, CA @ Detroit Bar
04/26: Los Angeles, CA @ Spaceland
04/27: San Francisco, CA @ Cafe Du Nord
04/28: San Francisco, CA @ Cafe Du Nord

The Playwrights, one of my new favorite groups from the east side of the Atlantic, are pushing back the release date of their new album. English Self Storage (recently reviewed on The PhiLL(er)) is now set to be released by Sink and Stove Records in the US on June 13th.
The track “Fear of Open Spaces” was featured on show #35 of our podcast, but for those of you that prefer your music without my commentary, you can download an MP3 as well.

After four years, two albums, and a DVD release with Equal Vision Records, New Jersey group Armor for Sleep has signed with Warner Music Group imprint Sire Records.
The band released it’s debut Dream To Make Believe in June of 2003 and followed it up with the 2005 release of What To Do When You Are Dead. That 2005 album gained the band a host of attention as the video for “The Truth About Heaven” (MP3) went on to be featured on MTV and got the band a spot on MTV’s Spring Break 2006. Armor For Sleep’s final release with Equal Vision comes in the form of a DVD titled A Comprehensive Guide to Touring.
The label seems to be nothing but happy for the band stating that they will “continue to support [Armor for Sleep] wherever they may go” and that the band will “forever be considered part of the Equal Vision family.”
