Weezer recently announced that they will be contributing a song to the Green Day tribute album A Different Shade of Green. The song is a cover of the Nimrod track “Worry Rock” recorded last winter in semi-acoustic format. The album is to be released on Skunk Ape Records on July 22nd.
In addition to the contribution mentioned above, a live version of the song “Why Bother?” will make its way onto a double 7″ featuring bands including Phantom Planet, Ben Kweller, and AM Radio. The collection, to be released July 1, was created in order to raise money to help Petra Haden, an original member of the band That Dog.
Strangely enough, Weezer was sure to include in the announcement of the above titles that they will be available at Hot Topic and then most other retail/indie retailers. It is still speculation whether Weezer’s next tour is to be sponsored by Hot Topic, but I really don’t believe such a sponsorship would be able to increase the number of annoying kids that would already be present at a Weezer show.
